This course offers field exercises to firefighters with little or no previous experience in operating a chainsaw and provides hands-on cutting experience. The course focuses on the introduction of the chainsaw, including its’ functions, maintenance, and their tactical wildland fire application. Course Prerequisites: Qualified as a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2). Satisfactory completion of pre-course work. Minimum Requirements: 1. REQUIRED TRAINING • Basic Firefighter Training • Introduction to ICS (I-100) • Human Factors on the Fireline (L-180) • Introduction to Wildland Fire behavior (S-190) • Firefighting Training (S-130) • Power Saws (S-212) • Annual Fireline Safety Refresher (RT-130) • National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Introduction (IS-700.a) 2. ADDITIONAL TRAINING which supports development of knowledge and skills Demonstrate competency as FAL1, FAL2, or FAL3 3. EXPERIENCE Minimum FFT2 Qualified 4. PHYSICAL FITNESS Arduous 5. ONCE CERTIFIED as FAL1, FAL2, or FAL3, other assignments that will maintain currency of the faller certification
